How to Improve Your Luck
Mar 18, 2026
Have you ever noticed how some people seem to attract opportunities with ease, while others feel like they are constantly running into obstacles? Whether you call it luck or karma, science has begun to uncover why certain people appear more fotunate than others.
Some psychologists believe that people who consider themselves lucky, tend to have a more open and relaxed mindset. Because they are less stressed and more optimistic, they expect good things to happen and so they do. They are more likely to notice opportunities, connect with others, and trust their instincts. So holding positive expectations to improve your luck, may be well worth trying.
Another strategy for improving luck comes from a study where participants were asked to write down three lucky things that happened to them each day for one week. The results were striking, because not only did participants report feeling luckier by the end of the week, but they also reported higher levels of happiness, lower anxiety, and a noticeably more optimistic outlook on their future.
What this study reveals is that luck is closely tied to where we direct our attention. When you train your mind to notice good fortune, no matter how small, your brain begins scanning your environment for more of it. Keeping a daily luck journal is a positive way to shift what you notice, what you attract, and ultimately what you experience.

Lucky people also tend to act on hunches, follow unexpected invitations, and say yes to things that logically may not make sense. Oftentimes, these seemingly small decisions become turning points in their lives. But perhaps the most overlooked factor in luck, is the story you tell yourself about who you are and what you deserve.
Psychologists studying identity and self-concept have found that people who carry a deep internal narrative of being unlucky, undeserving, or overlooked will unconsciously make decisions that confirm that story, turning down opportunities, and sometimes self-sabotaging.
At Sunkyeong Toronto, we believe that some of the energy and stories we carry about what is possible for us, are not necessarily formed in our own lifetime but more likely inherited.
